FISHER Mr. James Henry "Jim" Fisher Funeral Services for Mr. James Henry "Jim" Fisher, Jr. will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday November 25, 2012 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA with Rev. George Wortham and Father Frank Coens officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe. Jim was born March 14, 1925 to the late James H. Fisher, Sr. and Birdie Henderson Fisher in Complete (Meridian), Ms. He passed away on November 23, 2012 in West Monroe, LA with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Matthias Schulte, his mother-in-law, Margaret Dutko; 5 half-sisters and 1 half-brother. Jim was one of the first eleven students that graduated from the first night school program and ULM, formerly Northeast Louisiana State College. He was a transportation analyst for the railroad, trucking, and steamship industries. He was retired from Johns Manfield (Graphic Packaging) and Williamette Industries (Weyerhauser) as Asst. Traffic Manager. Jim was a graduate of Meridian High School in 1943. He joined the United States Nacy in June 1943 as Apprentice Seaman. He served aboard the USS Gridley where he was promoted to Quartermaster. He was trained in long range navigation, Minecraft Training, and Mine Warfare. He was then assigned to the USS Peregrine in September 1945. On March 7, 1946 he was honorably discharged. He received the following medals: Asiatic Pacific (7 stars), Group Commendation, Commander Task Force 58, Victory Medal, American Theatre, and Phillipine Liberation (2 stars). He was proud to have fought for America's freedom and to be a World War II Veteran. Jim was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church since 1963. He was an active member of the West Monroe Rotary Club since 1980. He served in all officer positions and as Rotary District Govenor 6190 in 2002-2003. He was a 32nd degree Mason, paster Master of Mobile Lodge 40, Scottish Rite and Charter Member of Barak Temple and Legion of Honor. He was also an active member of the West Monroe High School Band Boosters, Boy Scout Leader and 4-H Volunteer while his children were in school.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan Schlute Fisher; sons, Richard Schnell and wife, Vicki, and James H. (Jay) Fisher, III; daughter, Renee Stadius and husband, Tom; eight grandchildren, Tabitha Schnell, Melinda Schnell, Alyssa Fisher, James H. (Jason) Fisher, IV, Collin Fisher, Emily Fisher, Andrew Stadius and wife, Betsy, and Hannah Stadius; sister-in-law, Shirley Scallorn and husband, Charles; and numerous nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers are Tim Sigur, Tim Holstead, Andrew Stadius, Sonny Day, Barry Webb, and Craig Pate. Honorary pallbearers are the West Monroe Rotary Club, Legion of Honor, Wayne Gates, Chris Dement, and O'Neal Falgoust. Special thanks to Dr. Antti Maran, Dr. Keith Calhoun, Dr. Don Hammett and the staff of Cornerstone Hospital, Glenwood Home Health, and LA Hospice. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA and also, 1:00 PM until service time Sunday, November 25, 2012.
