Harriet Jane Black, born July 19, 1925 passed away November 13, 2012.
Harriet served in the US Navy from 1943 – 1947. She was a member of the Nehemiah Baptist Church of Cool Ridge. Harriet married Orvis Black in 1947, and they were married for 50 years.
In addition to her husband Orvis Black, Harriet is preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Sue Black; granddaughters, Melanie Faith Black, Anna Blake and great-grandson, Joshua David Black.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Donald O. Black and wife Terri of TN, David D. Black and wife Michelle of Cool Ridge, Robert M. Black and wife, Karen of Beckley, daughters, , Karen J. Black and husband Joel of MN, Suzanne Gail Black Jenkins and husband Harold of OH, Kathy A. Childs and husband Danny of Beaver; her grandchildren, Kelsy, Katelyn, Donald, Dillion, Christina, Jennifer, Andrea, David II, Erica, Kayla, Justin, Mackenzie, Christopher, Chad, Danielle, Terry, Jessica and Daniel; her great-grandchildren, Brian, Jacob, Kaleb, Tyler, Nathan, Ishiah, Kaiden, Carmin, Aubree, Isabella, Jack, Elora, and Eli. Harriet will be greatly missed, "Mommie we will see you in Heaven"
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Rev. Brian Harmon officiating. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Black, Danny Childs, David Black, Don Black, Harold Jenkins, Joel Frederickson, Chris Cook and Joe Prince.
Friends may gather with the family Saturday from 1 – 2 PM at the funeral home.
