Mary Kathern Haley
Age 71 years, 10 months and 11 days, a resident of East Prairie, passed away Monday December 9, 2013 at 8:25 am in the Bertrand Retirement Center.

Born January 28, 1942 in Grant, Alabama to the late James Thomas & Vester Lorene Guffey Guthrie, Kathern had lived most of her life in Mississippi County where she was a retired housekeeper for the East Prairie Nursing Center and was also a Foster Grandmother for D.A.E.O.C in East Prairie. She was of the Baptist Faith.

On November 16, 1959 she married James Franklin Haley who preceded in death on December 29, 1997.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy Shirl Henry of Charleston and Mary Ellen Ditto of East Prairie; two brothers, James Leon Guthrie of East Prairie and Tony Clay Guthrie, Sr. of Scottsboro, Alabama; six sisters, Sue Guthrie of East Prairie, Elizabeth Wilson of Puxico, Ruby Jones of East Prairie, Ruth Rhyne of Grant Mountain, Alabama, Shirley Howton of Scottsboro, Alabama; and Pat Day of Arnold; by seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and many friends.

Besides her husband and parents, one son, James Franklin Haley, Jr.; one grandson, Dustin Wade Miller; two brothers, James Franklin Guthrie and Nathan Sanders Guthrie also preceded Kathern in death.

Friends may call after 5 pm Wednesday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday December 12, at 1 pm in the Shelby Chapel with Bro. David Dowdy officiating. Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Chris Ditto, William "T-Bone" Johnson, Steve Wilson, Allan Wilson, Will Thomas and Joey Day. Honorary Pallbearers were Timmy Jones, John Guthrie and Kevin Lee.
