Frederick Compau was born in Detroit 16 Feb 1844. His parents were Jacques "James" Campau and Ann Menacon. James and Ann appeared together in the census of 1870 in Brownstown East Rockwood, Between the households of sons Francis and Fred. In 1880 Ann was in household of Fred. James and Ann were buried in the small, original St Mary's Cemetery in East Rockwood per Oscar A. Carlson. In his book It Happened At Rockwood, on page 19 he describes St Mary's Rockwood original church and cemetary in East Rockwood. Church est. 1844 as mission of St Charles of Newport, where LaVigne & Canceillari gas station is now (1951). Cemetary across the street, est 1853, 5 marks still existing include James and Ann Campau. (I remember the gas station being on N.E corner of River Road and Lee Road, cemetery on S.E. corner. Richard Van Wasshnova)
