Linda Marleen Schutt was born to Wilfred and Paula (Nyhagen) Schutt. She was baptized November 16, 1945. She grew up on the family farm near Milnor, ND. Linda attended grades one through four at Dunbar #2, a country school near her home. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on October 23, 1960. She went to Milnor Public School for grades five through twelve and graduated from there in 1963. She then attended Valley City State College and graduated with a Standard Degree in 1965. Linda taught fourth grade in Carrington, ND, 1965-1967. She again attended Valley City State College and graduated in August 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Degree with majors in English and Elementary Education.

Linda married Deverne D. Briss of Kensal, ND, on August 9, 1968, in Milnor, ND. They made their home in Valley City, ND. She taught sixth grade at North Central of Barnes, Rogers, ND, for the 1968-69 school year. In 1969 they moved to Wahpeton, ND. Linda taught in Breckenridge, MN, 1969-1972. Their son, Darren, was born August 1, 1972.

On November 1, 1972, the family moved to Fertile, MN, where they owned and operated Briss TV Sales and Service for 13 years. In the fall of 1973, Linda was employed by the Erskine School District, Erskine, MN, (which later became part of the Win-E-Mac School District) where she taught fourth grade for 31 years until her retirement in 2004.) They adopted a two-year-old daughter, Melinda, in 1977. They moved to Erskine, MN, in September 2001 and built a home on Lake Sarah.

Linda was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, MN, where she was active in choir and on the education committee. When they lived in Fertile, she was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and served on the worship and library committees. She was a member of the Minnesota Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Win-E-Mac Teachers' United. She served as president of the Erskine Education Association for the 1979-80 school year. She was chosen as Win-E-Mac Teacher of the Year in 1997. In college she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi and served as its president for one year. She won her home town title of Miss Milnor in 1965.

Linda loved God, her family, and her friends. She loved to read, sing, cook, bake, and garden. She loved springtime and the beauty of nature.
