Richard (Dick) was a birthday present to his mother, born March 9, 1936 to Raymond (Heinie) and Laura (Yarian) Delp in Plymouth, IN. Dick grew up in the town of Bourbon, where he graduated with the class of 1954. On May 29, 1954, in the family's country home, Dick and Karen Ann Apple were married. They first lived in Lafayette where Dick attended Purdue University. Later they moved backed to Bourbon where they founded Delp Electric, Inc. in 1956. In 1964, Dick and Karen moved their family and their business to Plymouth. Dick was a member of National Electrical Contracting Association (NECA) and held licenses in Indiana, Michigan and West Virginia. His entrepreneurial spirit was a key component to the success of Delp Electric, Inc. and integral for laying the foundation for Michiana Contracting, Inc. - a business that today employs many family members and friends. As a couple, Dick and Karen loved to travel. Dick especially enjoyed the Southwest and Rocky Mountains camping with family or hunting with friends. He loved most spending time with family not only during holidays and birthdays but taking trips together. Dick and Karen went on many annual summer vacations with their kids and many times other family members and friends. Their vacations usually involved camping -- first in tents, then in campers and later traveling in their motorhome. All of their children and grandchildren have many special memories of trips they were part of. Dick and Karen not only were lucky to visit every state in the United States, several many times, but also Canada and Mexico. They enjoyed many trips abroad as well to Italy, Switzerland, England, Brazil, Bolivia, Australia, New Zealand & China. Dick also participated in several mission trips to El Sembrador in Honduras. Dick was a proud member of Rotary International both locally and in the district. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and enjoyed attending international Rotary Conventions in France, Scotland, Germany, Korea and Canada. In 1996, Dick led a month long G.S.E. Rotary team to Japan for business and education professionals. Dick is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Michael (Judy) Delp; son-in-law, Don Wendel; daughter, Deborah (Mark) Gidley; and son, David (Pam) Delp, all of Plymouth; & two "international" sons, Marcelo Suvelza of South Bend and Ricardo Bonganhi of Brazil. Dick is also survived by nine grandchildren: Michael (Heather) Delp, Plymouth, Valerie (Joe) Medema, Schoolcraft, MI, Erica (Jay) Sefton, Fort Wayne, Matthew (Lisa) Gidley, Clovis, NM, Adam Delp, Florissant, CO, Laura (Zach) Scott, Plymouth, Shannon Gidley, Plymouth, Stacey (Jordan) Adams, Napannee, & Anthony Delp, Corydon, IN. Dick is survived by thirteen great grandchildren: Taylor & Trey Delp, Brooke & Allyson Medema, Gage, Bryce, Drake & Ciera Sefton, Madeline Gidley, Grady & Maisy Scott, Branson & Emersyn Gidley-Adkins and two more great-grandchildren on the way.
