He was born to the parents of Harry N & Ethel Holcomb McQuitty. He married Pauline Frances Keele 3 Jul 1934 Butler, Bates, MO, and they had one son, Richard Allen McQuitty. They were members of the First Baptist Church

They were members of the First Baptist Church of Pontiac, Illinois. Al was a merchant in downtown Pontiac operating the Fabric shop, selling yard goods, trims, notions and also custom made draperies and window treatments made on site. He did the installation of the custom draperies.
