Mark A. Boettcher, 84, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Monday, November 19, 2012, at his home in Columbus surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 11:00 A.M. at the Federated Church with Rev. Annika Lister Stroope officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home. Memoirals may be directed to Central Community College or the Professional Insurance Agents of Nebraska Leadership Scholarship Fund.

Mark Albert Boettcher was born December 2, 1927, in Columbus to Bid and Mildred (Jessup) Boettcher. He attended school in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1945. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on February 7, 1946, and served in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was honorably discharged on June 19, 1947. Mark graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in business. On June 4, 1950, Mark was united in marriage to Elizabeth Browner in Norfolk, Nebraska. They settled in Columbus and Mark went to work at Speice-Echols-Boettcher Company. After the death of his father, Mark took over the insurance business.

Mark was active in state insurance organizations, was president of the PIA (Professional Insurance Agents) and the NAIA (Nebraska Association of Insurance Agents), and Platte County Insurance Board. He was treasurer of Central Community College Foundation Board. Mark was also active in the United Fund, Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Elks Club, Izaak Walton, Boy Scouts, and was a charter member of the Toastmasters. He enjoyed politics and was a member of the Federated Church. Mark was an avid camper since 1968, he and his wife enjoyed traveling around the United States, Mexico, and Europe.
