Bertha Viola Cardin, 91, of Athens, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at her residence.


A native of Monroe County and a resident of McMinn County for most of her life, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Carrie Cook Gaddis and was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Hensley Cardin, on Dec. 16, 1973. She was of the Baptist faith.


Survivors include seven sons and four daughters-in-law, Wendell Cardin, Hubert and Dorcas Cardin, James Cardin and Robert Cardin, all of Athens, Edward and Wanda Cardin and Bill and Joyce Cardin, all of Etowah, and Wayne and Elizabeth Cardin of Riceville; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Minister Bill Wilkerson officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at McMinn Memory Gardens.


Active pallbearers will be her sons.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
