She was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Nagasaki, Japan, daughter of the late Kikutaro and Sayo Nakata.
She took pride in her garden and floral arrangements, and was an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by two sons, Eddie W. Akers of Lumberton, N.C., and Mark A. Akers and wife, Zena, of St. Pauls, N.C.; one daughter, Christy M. Life and husband, Scott, of Rockport; seven grandchildren, Justin, Tiffany and Meghan Akers and Taylor and Jessica Life; and four great-grandchildren, Makailyn Munday, Keziah and Kaydynce Akers and Regiane Ramsey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Akers.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Rob Collins officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home.
