He is survived by his adoring family: wife, Doris; daughters, Donna (Dan) Rouster, Susie (Bill) Hay, Nancy (Drew) Takaichi, Linda (Doug) Neal as well as grandchildren Kelly and Kevin (Kathryn) Hay, Matt and Christine Takaichi, Jessica, Brett and Bridget Neal.
Boots attended Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati from 1941-1945 and later served for one year in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN in 1950 where he was an active member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Boots married his college sweetheart Doris Wells in June 1950, and together they raised four daughters in Terrace Park, Ohio.
He was a manufacturer's representative for the Herff Jones Company and went on to found Graduate Services, selling class rings, caps and gowns and commencement announcements to many high schools in the Ohio Valley tri-state area for over 35 years.
When he retired, Boots and Doris moved to Bonita Springs, FL, where they enjoyed golf, many friendships and frequent family visits. They spent summers in Palisades Park, Michigan where Boots established a youth tennis program which continues to thrive today. He was president of the Ohio Valley Tennis Association for three years. He held golf memberships at Terrace Park Country Club in Ohio, Point O Woods Country Club in Michigan and Bonita Bay in Florida.
Boots will always be remembered as someone who brightened a room with extremely colorful attire and an infectious laugh. His passion for big band music was eclipsed only by the deep love he felt for Doris and his dear family, his friends, as well as his faith in God and his country.
A memorial service was held in Terrace Park, OH, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on August 4, 2008, at 10am. A second service was held in Bonita Springs, FL.
