Heman (Herman or just H.C.) Wims was born 11 May 1844 in Sumner County, Tennessee.

His father, William H. Wims, was born in Virginia about 1809. His mother, Sarah Coker, was born in Tennessee about 1813. Their marriage bond was recorded in Sumner County, Tennessee on 2 July 1831 with John P. Carr as bondsman and recorded as having been executed in the Sumner County marriage book on 21 July 1831.

By 1840 William H. and Sarah had three children (names unknown): one daughter born between 1831 and 1835 and two sons born between 1835 and 1840. Son H.C. was born in 1844. There is no further record of this family or where they might be buried.

At the outbreak of the Civil War, H.C. enlisted in Co "K", 20th TN Inf Reg and served for the duration of the war.

After the war, on 6 May 1865 he married Mary L. Smart in Sumner County, Tennessee. Mary was born in 1843 in Sumner County. They had eight known children as follows:

1) John William Wims, son, b. 19 Feb 1866
2) Mary E. Wims, dau, b. 1868
3) Louisa Ann, dau, b. 15 Nov 1869
4) Henry W., son, b. June 1873
5) Joseph C., son, b. 1875
6) Henrietta L., dau, b. 1877
7) Euceva Jane, dau, b. 26 Aug 1879
8) Alice Myrtle, dau, b. 12 Oct 1881

There is an interment in Restland Cemetery, Dallas for M. Louisa Wims, b. 1844 - d. 1883 which is very likely Mary L. Smart, H.C.'s first wife. If true, this means that H.C. moved his family from Tennessee to North Texas after their daughter Alice was born in 1881 and that Mary died soon after arriving in Texas.

H.C. then married second to Mary F. MNU in 1884. She was born in Alabama in 1847 and reported in the 1900 Census that she had never had any children and had been married to H.C. for 16 years.

His daughter, Louisa Ann, married Louis Christian in 1886. At the time of the 1900 Census, her brothers John William and Henry W. were boarding with them and doing farm work.

At this time, I have found no record of when his second wife, Mary F., died or where she is buried. Still working this this. (William Goman, 27 Sept 2016)
