Emile Murrary Copeland, 67, died Thursday morning, August 27, 1981 at a Kansas City Kansas medical Center. Born in San Antonio Texas he spent most his life in King City. He graduated from King City high school and from Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, with a double major in English and social science. Mr. Copeland spent nine years teaching in rural Missouri schools and 21 years in the Union Star Missouri school system. He served as principal of the Union Star high school for 11 years, coached the boys basketball team and sponsor the school newspaper. He became known as the school philosopher. Mr. Copeland retired after 31 years of teaching to devote more time to his several cattle farms. He was a member and an elder of the first Christian church in King City and had taught the high school age Sunday school class or many years. He was also a past president of the DeKalb County Teachers Association. Survivors include one brother, Rex E. Copeland, Grove's Texas. Funeral services were conducted Saturday the First Christian church in King City with burial in the King City Cemetery.
