Mrs. Lydia E. Davis, oldest daughter of Matthew Bates and wife, Susan (Maxwell) Bates, was born near Linn, Mo., on September 19, 1870, and passed from this life on October 10, 1947.
She leaves to mourn her death four son; Arthur of Mission, Texas, Paul of Webster Groves, Mo., Harry of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Russell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three daughters, Mrs. Ben Rush, Kaw City, Oklahoma, Mrs. Bill Gill, Maplewood, Mo., and Mrs. Clyde Bade, San Gabriel, California; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchidren; 4 daughters-in-law; 3 sons-in-law; 4 brothers and 5 sisters, other relatives and many friends.
She was a loving mother, sister, and a friend and will be sadly missed by all who loved her. In early life she confessed her faith in her Savior and united with the Baptist Church and has remained true to her faith all through the years.
She was laid to rest in the Bates cemetery north of Gerald on October 12, 1947. She will be remembered by many persons in Gerald as she spent her girlhood years near here. May she rest in peace.
