MARJORIE TROXELL GAU

Funeral services for Marjorie Troxell Gau will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Rev. Larry Kowalski will officiate. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery. There will be a wake at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Marjorie was born Jan. 12, 1915, near Elsmore, Kan., to Fred and Mable (Rodda) Troxell and died May 1, 2006, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

She graduated from high school as class salutatorian and was awarded a college scholarship for her efforts.

On Sept. 1, 1941, she married Dr. LeRoy Gau at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Amarillo, Texas. Three children were born to this union: Richard, Toni and Gregory Allan.

She was active in several neighborhood clubs, church and school. She was a homeroom mother for each of her children at St. Joseph’s School and worked in the school cafeteria. She served two terms as president of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church Altar Society and belonged to the National Council of Catholic Women, in which she served a term as secretary. She took an active part in 4-H, St. Cecelia’s Discussion Group, the Glenwood Neighbor’s Group, the Garfield County Home Extension and held several offices in the Dr.’s Wives Auxiliary. Also, at St. Gregory’s she was a member of the Finance Committee and served three terms on the Church Council.

Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, and traveling. The highlight of her travels was to the Holy Land, Jerusalem and Rome, where her travel group had an audience with Pope Paul and received his blessing.

Mrs. Gau is survived by her son, Richard Gau and wife Linda of Enid; daughter, Kathryn “Toni” Dilldine of Tulsa; grandchildren, John Gau and wife Lisa of Enid, Curtis Faulkner of Greenwood, Ark., and Julie Faulkner of Broken Arrow; step grandchildren, Edward Matthews and wife Ellon of Enid, and Jon Matthew and wife Sonja of Tulsa; and seven great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three brothers, Wayne Troxell of Filmore, Calif., Dale Troxell and wife Mary of Ventura, Calif., and Wendel Troxell and wife Willa of Moran, Kan.; and a sister, Irene Meigs of Sun City, Ariz., as well as a number of nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr.LeRoy Gau, son Gregory, grandson Robert LeWayne Gau and step great-grandson Jesse Matthews.
