Death of Gordon E. Sackett
(Honeoye Falls Times)

A conscientious citizen, a helpful
friend and a devoted husband and
father, was lost to this, community
last Saturday afternoon, June 6th,
1959, when Gordon E. Sackett. of
Ideson Road passed away quietly
and unexpectedly at the family
home. With his wife, Louise, he
had been busy with duties which
they both enjoyed about the lawn
and garden, and the end came at
a time when he appeared to be in
his usual health. He was 58 years
of age.
Large numbers of relatives called
at Kays Funeral Home to express
their sympathy until Wednesday
afternoon at 3:00 o'clock,
when the Rev. Robert Findlay
conducted a service there. Interment
followed in North Bloomfleld
Cemetery where the deceased
rests besides a son, who lost his
life in an accident 21 years ago.
Gordon Sackett was born September
19th, 1900, to Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Sackett, Sr. of Corby
Road and grew up in a family of
fourteen children. They later located
on the Mendon Center-Pittsford
Road where Gordon attended
the rural school and grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage
with Miss Louise Gerald of Brockport
on November 20th, 1920, and
after living in the Mendon neighborhood
for some time purchased
their present residence on Ideson
Road on Memorial Day of 1930.
There they reared a family including
one daughter and five sons.
For the past thirty-five years
Mr. Sackett has been with the.
State Highway Department and
at the time of his death was president
of the Highway Association
in this district. He was the oldest
member of the staff in point of
years of service, for this region,
and received his' twenty-five year
pin a decade ago.
His wife and family came first
in Mr. Sackett's affection, and beyond
them he was a friend and
neighbor of unfailing kindness and
consideration. With their children
grown and all in homes of their
own, he and his wife enjoyed,
many pleasant times together, and
he looked forward to retirement
when there would be more oppor-
tunity to work on the family property
which every year flourishes
with wonderful flowers and extensive garden.
Surviving are the wife, Louise
Gerald Sackett; a daughter. Mrs.
Louis Garling of Clay Road, Lima;
and five sons who are G. Gordon,
H Russell, Bruce R.; and Larry
E. of Honeoye Falls; and Grant
C. of West Webster. There are
also ten granddaughters and one
grandson. Three brothers and five
sisters are Joseph of Honeoye
Falls and Frank and Roy of Pittsford;
Mrs. Arthur Zonneville of.
Honeoye Falls; Mrs. Smith Lewis,
Mrs. Samuel Crump and Mrs. Edward
Frank, Pittsford; and Mrs.
Carlyle Field of Nunda: A num-
ber of of nieces and nephews also
remain.
