Together, they ran a country story in Cincinnati, Ohio. During the Mexican War her husband enlisted in the Army and served as a lieutenant under General Zachary Taylor. She ran the store while he was away. He returned home safely to her in 1846 or 1847. They ran the store until 1856. Together, they had 7 children, 4 of which were born in Cincinnati:
