Vern served as a Seaman 2nd Class in the Navy during World War II earning the WWII Victory Medal. Shortly after returning from the war he married the love of his life, Barbara May Clark on October 12, 1946 in Ogden. Vern and Barbara were able to celebrate 66 wonderful years together in October. One of their favorite activities was going to Texas Roadhouse every Sunday for dinner.
He worked as a Supervisor at a warehouse at Defense Depot Ogden.
Vern was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was an avid Jazz fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He took pleasure in traveling with his wife, friends and family. Vern and Barbara belonged to the Eagles and enjoyed going dancing. When they got older Vern and Barbara would spend their winters in St. George and Arizona where they made many new friends and loved to go rock hunting.
Vern is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Micheal V. (Colleen) Bowman, Ogden; Craig C. (Sandy) Bowman, Bullhead City, AZ; and Pat H. (Kim) Bowman, Farr West; daughter, Jolene (Greg) Barfuss, Roy; 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and 10 brothers and sisters.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family would like to thank Encompass Home Health and Hospice.
