Gaylord M. Hagemann died Monday, July 12, 2004 at the Wray Community Hospital. He was 75.

He was born to Henry and Iva Mae (Hiatt) Hagemann on November 2, 1928 at the family home near Holyoke. He attended a nearby country school where he graduated from eighth grade.

Gaylord worked at various jobs and raced horses before being drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He worked aboard a landing craft unit and was honorably discharged January 4, 1953.

On June 29, 1954 Gaylord married Beverly Welp Sager from Vernon. At the same time, he gained a son, Mark, whom he later adopted. Three children were born to this union: Sheila, Susan and Gaylen. They made their home on the family farm near Vernon.

Gaylord loved raising and racing horses. He was very proud of his thoroughbreds. He also enjoyed attending the weekly cattle auctions, visiting with people and going deer and elk hunting. Another highlight was attending Yuma County Fair watching his children, and later his grandchildren, show their animals.
