Jerrold Scovell Butler 1916 - 2012 Jerrold Scovell Butler was born to Edward H. Butler and Anna P. Butler of Tacoma. He attended Tacoma schools Jefferson, Mason, Stadium H.S., and C.P.S. (U.P.S.). He worked at Oregon-Washington Plywood Co. During WWII he served in the Naval Reserve in Alaska and on the USS Marshall in the South Pacific. After the war he was employed by Ross Lumber, A.J. Johnson, Sequoia; and after retirement, Al Mier's in Gig Harbor (Pro Build). Jerry was an excellent carpenter, designing and building two houses, the first with no power tools, and remodeling several other homes. Besides his love of the Gig Harbor area, he also enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, and, being an avid reader, discussing current events, the weather, Tacoma history, and the latest in cars. He always said, "I remember the events of my life by the cars I drove," having had 27 different models. And remembering his Latin, he whizzed through daily crossword puzzles. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, James Butler; two sisters, Betty Schmechel and Peggy Spring; his first wife Marie Schmitz and son Jerry Michael; and by second wife Violet Thorsen. Survivors include Kathleen Nass (Roy), John Butler, Mischel Jensen (Ron), Sheri Jensen, Lee Jensen (Lina) and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are through Haven of Rest, Gig Harbor, where there will be a Funeral Service in the Chapel on Saturday, Oct 27th at noon, followed by a graveside and a reception. Memorials to a charity of your choice. Please sign his online guestbook at www.havenrest.com.
