Born in Hespe, Schaumburg-Lippe, Lena immigrated with her parents, Carl & Sophie (Rodenbeck) Schoenbeck when she was two years old. The remainder of her life has been spent in or near Saline County, Nebraska. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran in 1903 and it was there that she married Henry Jordening in 1907. They had 3 children:

Lulu Amalia Maria Dorthea (1911-1977, married Walter Firnhaber & buried in Greenwood Cemetery at Seward); and
Harold Carl (1913-1971, married Wilma Bartels & buried in this cemetery).
