S/O William H & Minta Tinker Mahurin. H/O Flora May Stricklin. Known as 'Little Bill' to those who knew him. He was killed in car accident on Christmas Eve on Hwy 8 near his home.

LEAD BELT NEWS, Flat River, Missouri December 1953

William Mahurin, 45, Of Elvins Route 1, and Thomas Bradley, 34, of Leadwood, were killed in a four-car
wreck on highway 8, one mile west of Desloge, Thursday evening, Dec. 24. The following report of the accident
was given by the State Highway Patrol.
A 49 International pickup truck en route west, being driven by Tom Wadlow, age 49 of Elvins, was struck by a 37
Chevrolet coach, en route east, being driven by William Mahurin, age 45 of Route 1, Elvins.
The Chevrolet glanced off the truck and sideswiped a 50 Cadillac sedan, en route west, being driven by Pal Hatridge, age 35 of Leadwood. The Chevrolet then glanced off the Cadillac and collided practically head-on with a 47 Buick sedan en route west, being driven
by Thomas Bradley 34, of Leadwood.
Mahurin and Bradley were killed.
The Chevrolet and Buick were piratically demolished. The Cadillac was extensively damaged.
According to Wadlow and Hatridge, the Mahurin car was being driven on the wrong side of the road when it struck the car.
Deputy Coroner Paul Dugal conducted an inquest at the Miller Funeral Home in Farmington Monday afternoon. The coroner's verdict in the death of Mahurin was: "The deceased came to his death while driving a Chevrolet which collided with a Buick." In the death of Bradley, the verdict read: "The deceased came to his death while driving in the opposite direction to Mahurin.

William Irving Mahurin was born in Crawford Co, Mo., March 27, 1908, a son of William Henry
and Minta Tinker Mahurin, and died December 24, 1953, aged 45 years, 8 month and 11 days.
His father preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Flora Mae Strickland Mahurin, and nine
children: Mrs. Betty Lou Henroid and Mrs. Reathel June Hardesty of Desloge; Bobby Gene, Donnie
Lee, Geraldine, William Glen, Larry Ray, Frances Wayne and James Eugene at home. He also
leaves his mother, who lives on Elvins, Route 1, two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Light of St. Louis and
Mrs. Beulah Yarbrough of Elvins Route 1; four brothers: Dorris and Louis of Elvins, Route 1; Ray
of Desloge and Omar of Dillard, Mo. and five grandchildren, A sister, Mrs. Cora Rentfro is deceased.
Mr. Mahurin was an auto mechanic, employed with the C.E.S. Truck Lines. He was converted and
baptized in 1948.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Church of God in Gumbo, conducted by Rev.
John Rider and Rev. Robert Welker. Interment was in the K of P Cemetery at St. Francois.
