James "Jimmy" Wilber Whatley, 56, of 300 S.C. St., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at his home.

Born in Edgefield County, he was a U.S. Navy Chief, retired with 24 years service and having served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a Mason.

Survivors: wife, Christine Clark Whatley; mother, Azilee M. Whatley of McCormick; sons, Samuel C. Whatley and Russell A. Whatley, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Ali Whatley of the home; and one grandson. Predeceased: father, Wilbur Whatley.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Strom Funeral Home. Graveside service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Overbrook Cemetery in McCormick.
