Funeral services of the late John C. Phillips took place from the corner of Berkeley and Marlboro streets yesterday afternoon. Rev. Brooke Herford of the Arlington Street Church read a selection from the Scriptures; Rev. Dr. Butler of Beverly offered prayer, and the choir of the First Unitarian Church rendered appropriate selections. Among the prominent gentlemen present were Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Robert Treat Paine, Dr. Charles P. Putnam, Thomas and Edward Motley, Arthur Amory, Dr. John P. Reynolds, Murray Forbes, Abbott Lawrence, George Blagden; also the trustees of the Perkins Institution for the Blind, directors of the Boston & Albany railroad, and representatives of many of Boston's best families. The burial was at Mount Auburn.
