David Lee Trauernicht passed away at the Nampa Care Center on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, of natural causes.
David was born Aug. 27, 1913, in Earl, Frontier County, Neb., to Bertha Farner Trauernicht and Herman Trauernicht. He was the third child of four brothers and one sister. He spent his youth in Eustis, Neb.
Because of the drought and the Depression, in 1936, David left Nebraska for California then Idaho to find work. He met Helen Cummings in Melba, and they were married on Oct. 3, 1938. They spent 63 wonderful years together.
In 1950 David and Helen purchased their farm on Lynnwood and Bennett Road. Farming was not only David's occupation but also his pride and joy. He spent many years improving their farm and its production. He milked a small herd of Holstein cows throughout his farming years.
June Trauernicht, their eldest daughter, was stricken with a severe case of polio at the age of 12 in 1951. David and Helen worked diligently to see that June achieved her maximum potential throughout her life.
After retiring in 1978 David and Helen enjoyed traveling, camping, and fishing with family and friends. To keep his finger in agriculture he helped Gary Sedlecek farm his property and raise beef cattle. After they moved to Nampa he could make his 10 by 20-foot garden produce more than a somewhat larger field! David was a member of the Melba Oddfellow Lodge, Southside Grange, Upper Deer Flat Volunteer Fire Department, Nampa Countryman Club, and Southside Boulevard United Methodist Church. He was a man of great wisdom, fortitude and kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Jerry and her husband, Gary Cunningham of Grand View, Idaho; daughter, Barbara Trauernicht of Nampa; two grandchildren, Kim DeLeon of Nampa, and Stace and his wife, La Nae Cunningham of Boise; three great-grandchildren, Krystal DeLeon, Joshua and Rachel Cunningham; sister, Pansy Hall of Mitchell, Neb.; a brother, Herman and his wife, Jo Trauernicht of York, Neb. He was preceded in death by a daughter, June Trauernicht; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Doris Trauernicht; and two baby brothers, Paul Elsworth and Terodore Trauernicht.
