Alfred Grady King, age 81, of Clearview Dr., Asheboro died Monday, June 12, 2006 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Cross Road Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny R. Henderson and Rev. Greg Arnold officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
A native of Randolph County, Mr. King was born February 8, 1925. He was a member of Cross Road Baptist Church, where he was involved with the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He participated on many church committees and had served as church Treasurer and Sunday School Secretary. He had also served on the Board of Directors of the Cross Road Retirement Community.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He graduated from Catawba College in 1951 with a Business Degree and later earned a Masters Degree from UNC-Greensboro.
He taught in the Randolph County, Moore County, and Asheboro City School systems. In the latter, he served as principal at Balfour and Guy B. Teachey Schools. After retiring, he worked as a part-time instructor at Randolph Community College.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alfred and Henrietta King, and by his seven brothers and three sisters.
Mr. King was a loving husband, cherished father and grandfather. He leaves a legacy of Christian stewardship. He loved sports, especially basketball, which he played and coached, and he also played fast pitch softball.
He is survived by his wife, Mary King of Asheboro; son and daughter-in-law, Don And Alice Lee King of Sykesville, MD; and grandsons, David And Michael King also of Sykesville, MD
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 13, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
