Harry was once a stagecoach driver and attended business school. Around 1883, Harry and Alice moved From Orange County, New York to Syracuse, New York, where he and Alice started the A. J. Rider Tent and Awning Company. Harry is listed in the book "Notable Men of Central, New York, Syracuse and Vicinity", Dwight J. Stoddard, 1903, Pg. 232. Harry was originally buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. The date of birth on his headstone is incorrect. His wife Alice, who signed his death certificate, and no doubt ordered the grave marker, indicated 1858. The Quaker record of his birth also has 1858.
