Born March 28, 1925, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Wilfred and Lillian (Smith) Wehrly. He attended Central Catholic High School and graduated from South Side High School in 1943. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II as a pilot and B-29 crew member. Following the war, he attended Purdue University.
In 1947, he married Marjorie Vallier. He worked at Magnavox for several years before entering the Real Estate business with his father in 1952. In 1971, he co-founded Roth Wehrly Heiny Realtors as Vice President and eventually became President and sole owner of the company until his retirement in 1996. He was instrumental in the growth of the Fort Wayne residential Real Estate industry, forming what is still today the largest Real Estate company in Northern Indiana, Coldwell Banker Roth Wehrly Graber. He enjoyed mentoring those who were new to his "Real Estate family" and deeply appreciated his colleagues who supported him throughout his life.
His passions included fishing, boating and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a charter member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road.
Burial in Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Erin's House for Grieving Children.
