Powell--Jenkin Morgan Powell, 85, retired farmer of Swift Current passed away at the Swift Current Union Hospital on January 20th, 1968. Funeral services were held from the Lancer United Church, with Rev. John Bull officiating. Culham's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, pallbearers were Charles Herriot, Bob Anderson, Lorne Billingsley, John Holland, Bob Kimber, Ron Pierce; Honorary pallbearers were Oliver Semington, Fred McDonald, Archie Forrester, Dave Lanz, William Clary, Charles Dunlop and Ernie Pierce; soloist Mrs. Wally Carleton; organist Mrs. B. Culham. Interment followed at the Lancer cemetery. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife Isabelle, five daughters Frances (Mrs. Peder Myhr) Swift Current, Meryl (Mrs. Ralph Campion) Swift Current, Kathleen (Mrs. E. Schwab) Swift Current, Janey (Mrs. Al Hobird) Saskatoon, Gay Lynn {Gaylynne} of Saskatoon, one son Howard of Lancer, two sisters and one brother; seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Powell was predeceased by one son Graham, and two brothers. He was born in Yestergunlas - Glamorganshire, Wales on April 11, 1882. In 1887 he came to Canada with his parents to Souris, Manitoba. He homesteaded at Lethbridge in 1907 and two years later moved to the Lancer area where he continued to farm until his retirement in 1951. Mr. and Mrs. Powell were married in Swift Current on January 27, 1920. Mr. Powell was very active in community affairs Councillor for the R.M. of Miry Creek for ten years. Member of the Wayne Valley School Board for twenty-four years, a director of the Lancer Rural Telephone Company, a member of the Lancer Masonic Lodge No. 123 for fifty years and was also active in the Lancer and Swift Current Curling Clubs.
