He was born June 18, 1916 in Ogden. His parents were Frederick John and Edith Viola Bowman Wheeler .
Ernest married Virginia Andrew in 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Virginia preceded him in death on July 8, 1997.
He was raised and educated in Ogden.
Ernest was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to the Eastern States.
Ernest also served as a Bishop, Stake President, Patriarch, Temple Sealer and served with his wife in the Nashville, Tennessee Mission.
He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class.
Ernest retired from personnel management at the Internal Revenue Service.
Surviving are five sons, David (Faye) Wheeler, Snowflake, AZ; Richard (Virginia) Wheeler, San Jose, CA; Paul (Diane) Wheeler, Logan; Wendell (Yvette) Wheeler, Warrenton, VA; Douglas (Linda) Wheeler, Chantilly, VA; 26 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren with five great-grandchildren on the way.
Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Harold Wheeler, Ogden; Wayne Wheeler, Newburg, IN; Ruth Grant, North Ogden; Carole Clifton, Midway, UT.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Foothill 1st Ward Chapel, 1450 East 1500 North in Logan.
Friends may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the Foothill 1st Ward Chapel 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., at 3 p.m.
