Donna was born to Orville and Alice (Staes) Shane. She married Robert B. Carkenord on May 10, 1952, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria. Robert died on April 22, 2006. They would have celebrated 54 years of marriage the month following his death.
She is survived by two daughters, Gail (Michael) DeZorzi of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Sue (Stephen) Garnier of Waukesha, Wis.; three grandchildren, Joseph (Meredith) DeZorzi of Wichita, Kan., Christopher DeZorzi of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Katherine Garnier of Madison, Wis.; brother-in-law, the Rev. David Carkenord of Waterloo, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother.
Donna was employed by P.A. Bergner in their corporate division as an Administrative Assistant and a Merchandise Coordinator, retiring in 1995 after 20 years with that company.
Donna and Bob were charter members of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, where she served one year as president of the Women's Guild. Donna was a longstanding member of the League of Women Voters and served on their Board of Directors for several years. She was a student of government, history and current events.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening in her backyard and was actively involved in her family genealogy. Donna's grandchildren were a great source of pride. Her family will always cherish fond memories of the many celebrations at her Peoria home. She will truly be missed.
Interment will be next to her husband in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.
