Joseph Maren Sr. Dies After Illness



Joseph Maren Sr., age 77, of 820 N. Center Street, a resident for 55 years, died early today (May 18, 1967).

His death at Saint Joseph Hospital followed a lingering illness.

Born February 2, 1890 in Europe, he came to Joliet in 1912. He worked at the American Steel and Wire Division of the U.S. Steel Corporation as a young man. Later he worked for the Joliet City Water Departmant and at the Joliet Army Ammunitions Plant. For many years he was a self-employed painter and decorator, retiring 18 years ago.

Mr. Maren was a member of the KSKJ and of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Society. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He and his wife, the former Mary (Michaela) Riffel, were married on September 1, 1915 at St. Joseph's Church.

Mrs. Jack (Marie) Walsh, a daughter, is a court reporter for Associate Circuit Judge Angelo Pistilli.

Besides his wife, Mr. Maren is survived by five sons, Joseph S., Robert J., William R., Theodore A., and Frank A., all of Joliet; three daughters, Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. Wayne (Dorothy) Stone, and Mrs. William (Leona) Molaschi, all of Joliet; a sister Mrs. Frances (Fannie) Kamikar, formerly of Milwaukee, WI., and now of Joliet; two sisters Jennie and Peppe in Pueblo, CO.; two sisters Marie and Rose, and two brothers, Frank and John, all in Yugoslavia.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Tezak Funeral Home to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 420 N. Chicago Street, at 10 a.m. for a requiem mass.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 7 tonight and Friday afternoon and evening.
