Robert Harris Gilson, Sr., 78, of Manchester died Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at Meriwether Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester with Reverend T. P. Hadley officiating. Burial followed in Meriwether Memory Gardens.

Mr. Gilson was born July 23, 1925 in Talbot County, Georgia, the son of the late William Mangrum Gilson and Mary Harris Gilson. A US Army veteran of World War II serving on Co. C. 865th Engineering Aviation Battalion, he was the retired owner of G & K Automotive. Mr. Gilson was a Baptist, Deacon and former Councilman in Talbotton.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Tomlin Gilson of Manchester; sons and daughter-in-law, Dana Gilson of Manchester, Bobby & Sherry Gilson of Pine Mountain, and John & Amy Gilson of Manchester; two brothers, Ralph Gilson of Woodbury and Ben Gilson of Talbotton; two sisters, Maidie Ligon of Talbotton and Mary Parten of Newnan; and two grandsons, Thomas Christopher Gilson (Tom) and Robert Benjamin Gilson (Ben).
