John William Statham, Sr., 83, of Manchester, died Wednesday, March 1 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Northside Baptist Church, with Reverend Tommy Harrison officiating, assisted by Reverend Henthorne. Interment followed at Meriwether Memory Gardens, with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Deacons of Northside Baptist Church.

Mr. Statham was born April 10, 1916 in Poulan, Worth County, Georgia, a son of David Vinson Statham, Sr. and Carrie Bell Etheridge Statham. He retired from the spinning room at the Callaway and Milliken Mill, and with his wife, later operated Statham's Restaurant. He was a very active member of Northside Baptist Church, were he served in many capacities, including Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and was in charge of preparing all Brotherhood Meals.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Clidie M. Statham. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John W. Jr. and Irene Statham of Americus, and Tommy and Louise Statham of LaGrange; a daughter, Sharon Neely of Manchester; a sister, Maggie Taylor of Poulan; seven grandchildren, Mike Neely, Mark Neely, Matt Neely, Monte Neely, Jeff Statham, Tami Statham, and Zach Statham; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Statham may be made to Northside Baptist Church or Hospice LaGrange.
