William George Krekel, the son of Louis Fabian Krekel (1860-1909) and Wilhelmina (Glaser) Krekel (1871-1955), was a native of Burlington, Iowa. He married Loretta Louise Strabala (1890-1943) in Burlington on April 3, 1907.

Their children were Kenneth Joseph Krekel (1909-1950), Mildred C. (Krekel) Leffler (1912-1975), William Wallace "Speck" Krekel (1914-1981), and Virginia Louise "Jean" (Krekel) Swanson (1918-2010).

William G. Krekel, 64, of 1433 Cleveland avenue, died Saturday at 5:45 a.m. (October 13, 1951) in Mercy hospital. He had been in ill health for about 5 months, had been hospitalized for 6 weeks.

He was born February 22, 1887, in Burlington, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Krekel. In 1908 in Burlington he married the former Loretta Strabala who died about 8 years ago. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church, Holy Name society of the church, Hawkeye Natives, Eagles, Knights of Columbus and UCT.

Surviving are a son and 2 daughters of Burlington, Wallace, Mrs. Mildred Leffler, Mrs. Virginia Swanson; 7 grandchildren; and the following brothers and sisters: Albert, Edith Krekel, Mrs. Bertha Wendlandt, Walter, Edward, Mrs. Mae Smith and Iola Krekel of Burlington, Charles of Chicago and Fred of Decatur, Illinois. A son, Kenneth, died 2 years ago.

Services will be Monday at 9 a.m. in the St. John's church, preceded by short services at Giles funeral home at 8:30. Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery.
