Alta M. Turner, 98 of Honesdale, died on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the home of her daughter Carolyn Mackle. She was preceded in death by her husband S. Richard "Dick" Turner on April 5, 1995. The couple married on January 16, 1935.
Born on June 1, 1914 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Ries Menner. She was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1931. Later she was employed at Tuscarora Wayne Insurance Company where she was a clerk.
Alta was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an avid reader. Alta loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed the special time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Joyce Mershon and husband Millard of Lititz, PA, Elizabeth Cashmark of Laurel, MD, Carolyn Mackle and husband Bruce and Rachel Malloy and husband John all of Honesdale; her son Thomas R. Turner and wife Barbara of Schnecksville, PA; grandchildren David, Charles and Eileen Mershon; David, William and Kathleen Cashmark; Deborah Kussoff, Stephen Mackle, Thomas Malloy, Karen Stumpo and Susan Ford; 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law John Cashmark and grandson Robert Malloy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 1 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale with Rev. Rob Kazinski officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale. Friends may visit on Friday from 4 to 7. Condolences: www.hesslingfuneralhhome.com.
