Paul K. Percival, 89, of Lycoming Street, Canton, died in the Troy Community Hospital Thanksgiving evening, November 26, 1998, following an illness. Paul was born to the late David and Lucina Bellows Percival, their only son, on October 11, 1909. A former resident of LeRoy, he spent the last 19 years in Canton with his third wife, Marjorie Hardy Percival. He was the third generation of coal miners, both underground and strip mining. His son and grandson followed in the family tradition. Paul, who began his lifelong occupation at the age of eleven, retired in 1985 after working under contract as a relief dragline operator in Mildred, PA. He schooling ceased in 1920 before finishing eighth grade in the LeRoy two-room schoolhouse. Paul had two loved besides mining, fly-fishing, and bowling. He had been awarded numerous bowling trophies that he displayed in his home. Little League Baseball was another of his interests. He helped organize the sport in the LeRoy area with other sports minded fathers. Paul was a great story teller of tales of his past life and entertained his extended family at their numerous get-togethers and others who asked questions. Surviving are: his wife, Marjorie, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, John Paul and Norma Percival, Dushore; grandchildren and their spouses; Jana and Steve Riggs, Bowie, MD; Jon Scott and Sue Percival, Hughesville; Att. Jennifer Campbell, Washington, DC; David Campbell, New Jersey; Bradley and Bonnie Campbell, Jersey Shore; two half-brothers and their spouses, Emery and Kay Treat, Fort Howard, MD and Edwin and Carol Treat, Red Lion, PA. Extended family members include: Thomas and Jean Dutchess, Angela and Ron Weeden, Theodore and Patricia Dutchess, Annette and Lance Albertson, Kimberly and Tim Birney, Andrew, Amber, and Benjamin Dutchess, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his first wife Emiley Zellers Percival in 1938 and his second wife, Clarissa Cornell Percival in 1980. In compliance with Mr. Percival's wishes, there were no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 1998 at the time of interment in the LeRoy Cemetery. Mr. Percival's nephew, Rev. Mr. William H. Graham, will officiate. Arrangements were under the direction of the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Dr., Canton. The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, 1704 Warren Ave., Williamsport, PA or to a charity of one's choice in Mr. Percival's memory. –Canton Independent Sentinel.
