Marshall Lance Sage passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012. He was bird hunting in the mountains of Idaho, one of his favorite pastimes.
Marshall was born in Parsons, Kansas on March 23, 1947. He was one of four children and the only son of Marshall D. and Leota Lance Sage. He spent his early years in Kansas and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Pittsburgh State University in Kansas.
In 1970, Marshall joined the U.S. Army and served in many locations, including Germany, Ft. Riley and Desert Storm. He considered his service to country as one of his greatest accomplishments. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He also worked as a stockbroker for many years, including many successful years at Kidder Peabody Co in San Diego. In Boise, he hosted hunting and fishing outdoor program on a local radio station.
Marshall loved the Idaho outdoors. He was an avid bird hunter and fisherman. He had played high school basketball, football, and baseball and continued to enjoy sports throughout his life.
Marshall and his beloved wife, Holly, enjoyed many special friends and great adventures during their marriage. Highlights included a rugged outdoor trip to Alaska, flying in a small plane across the Midwest, bird hunting with friends in the Dakotas, an amazing trip to Mexico and a fantastic voyage across the Southwest and many more.
Though he moved often, Marshall maintained many lifelong friends. He was great at keeping contact with those he loved.
Marshall was in Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Assoc., Safari Club International member, an Elk of the BPOE-Weiser Lodge and attended Calvary Chapel. He had a great knowledge of the Bible and a tremendous love of the Lord.
Survivors include his wife, Holly Sage; his children, Michael, Dean and Jenny Sage; his sister, Carolyn (Chris) Johnson; stepdaughter, Annie Henman; granddaughters, Bailey and Greta, of Boise; as well as Holly's family and numerous aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, his sisters, Betty Ann and Connie, and numerous aunts and uncles.
On Nov. 29 a military service will be held at 11am at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery and a celebration of Marshall's life will be held immediately following at Charter Pointe.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
