Mrs. Anna Luoma was born in Finland on September 28, 1851. She passed away in Moe township on September 23 at 9 a.m. being 83 years, 11 months and 25 days old at the time of her death. She grew to womanhood in Finland and when 27 years old was united in marriage to Abraham Luoma. Two girls and three boys were born to this union (all of whom have preceded her in death.)
In 1900, with her two younger sons she came to America and joined her husband and one son and daughter, who had come to America several years before. They lived at Schoffield, Utah, where they worked in the coal mines. Here her husband and two sons lost their lives in a mine explosion. She then moved to Wisconsin with her one surviving son to join her daughter who had located at Montreal, Wisc. Two years later she came to Minnesota with her daughter and son-in-law (Mrs. Andrew Esala). They bought a farm in Moe which has since been her home. Her daughter preceded her in death in 1920 and her son-in-law in 1932. One son, Math, passed away in 1906 working in the north woods. Six grandchildren survive: Hilda (Mrs. V. A. Silvola) of Virginia, Minn.; John Esala of Brandon; Eddie Esala of Stillwater; Anna (Mrs. August Anderson) of Moe township; Mayme of Moe township; Oscar Esala of Moe township. Twelve great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) Sept. 26th at 1:30 at the residence of John Esala and at 2:00 at Finnish Lutheran church of Moe, Rev. S. A. Krankkala officiating. Interment will be made in the Finnish Lutheran church cemetery.
