Mrs. Mary Ellen Leffard
Mrs. Mary Ellen Leffard died at her home in South Porter township, Monday afternoon, after a ten months illness caused by paralysis. She was born June 10, 1857, hence at the time of her death was aged 76 years and one month. She was the daughter of Robert A. Laird and Elizabeth (Martin) Laird.
Mrs. Leffard in her early years was a teacher in the county schools, and has lived her entire life in Porter township. She was a member of the Hartslog Grange and a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Alexandria. She was a highly respected woman and her passing has been mourned by all her friends and acquaintances.
Her husband, John R. Leffard, died January 22, 1912. The deceased is survived by two brothers, Alfred M. Laird of Porter township and Edward Laird of Huntingdon, and one sister, Miss Bertha Laird of Porter township. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Mrs. James Rishel and Mrs. Walker Harper of Porter township.
The funeral will be held at the home in Porter township Thursday, at 2:30 p. m., with the Rev. W. E. Stewart of Huntingdon and former pastor of Mrs. Leffard, officiating. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian church at Alexandria.
