The last days of President Lincoln were familiar in the mind of Mrs. Elma Davis Acheson formerly of 2508 Wayne Ave, who died Friday morning. She was ninety-nine.
Naive and one of the oldest residents of Erie County, Mrs Acheson was born in 1861 in Wales, daughter of the late Lake Capt. Levi and Diantha M. Davis. She came to Erie in 1884.
Elma was 4 years old when Lincoln was assassinated. She often talked about a picture of her after standing on the bridge of the Great Lakes Schooner. He sailed the lakes in the days of the old sailing vessels and last served on the F.W. Gifford.
She was born July 30th and was nine years old when her parents moved to Wesleyville. In 1884, they moved to Erie. She watch the growth of the city and often recounting incidents of the city's early history.
She is survived by one son, Levi Davis Acheson, of Elyria, OH., seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-granchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Ethel Kent, preceded her in death.
The Donald C. Burton Funeral Home at 10th & Cherry Streets handled the arrangements. The Rev. James H. Cox pastor of thr Girard Methodist church officiated. Burial was in Wales Cemetery.
