Edward Thomas Austin, age 89, of Kingston Assisted Living in Hickory, formerly of Lenoir, died Monday, October 29, 2012. He was born January 21, 1923 in Caldwell County to the late Joe and Jane Carlton Austin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Cornelia Bradshaw Austin; son, Allen Thomas Austin; daughter, Nancy A. Anderson; four brothers, Robert Vernon Austin, Clarence Austin, Ray Austin and Reuben Austin; and one sister, Elva Beard.

Mr. Austin was retired from the furniture industry. He served proudly in the United States Army during WWII in the Philippines and Guadalcanal. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday school teacher and groundskeeper. He was a kind and loving husband and father.

Survivors include his son-in-law, Michael Anderson of Hickory; two brothers, Norman Austin and Beno Austin, both of Lenoir; one sister, Bonnie Coffey of Lenoir; special friend and caretaker, Judy Rayburn-Young; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Phil Setzer. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
