Edgerton - Long known as one of Edgerton's leading businessmen, George W. Mr. Doty was born Jan. 16, 1852, at Newville, just east of this city, and moved to Edgerton with his parents in 1854. With the exception of a year in Milwaukee, one year in Madison, two in Janesville and six years in Monroe, he had been a lifelong resident of Edgerton since that time.

As a young man Mr. Doty learned the drug business from Dr. Stillman. His first drug store, however, was in Madison and a year after starting that venture he moved to Janesville. When the First National bank was organized in 1903, he was named as president and served continuously in that post for many years. It was while he was serving as its head that the bank was robbed in April, 1931.

The Masonic Blue lodge, Chapter Commandery, Eastern Star and associated groups had honored Mr. Doty for his long and faithful membership.
