Anna May Bevens of Corvallis died Sunday at her home. She was 93.
She was born in Corvallis to Solomon and Theresa Briody Wigle and grew up at Rock Creek, on the Oregon Coast. She moved to Kings Valley as a teen and graduated from Kings Valley High School. She met Dorval Bevens in Kings Valley and they were married July 16, 1936, in Tillamook. They lived on the Bevens Ranch in Kings Valley until 1938, when they moved to Philomath. They lived in several different logging communities in Benton and Lincoln counties.
In 1947, they started Northside Lumber Co. in Philomath, and she became one of Benton County's first women business owners. Northside Lumber became one of the area's largest employers. It was later sold by the family and is now operated by Georgia Pacific. She worked every day until the age of 76 and lived independently in her own home until shortly before her death.

She enjoyed her family, her business, her contributions to the community and her independence.

Survivors include her daughter, Norma Jean Vincent of Philomath; sister, Ella Lohner of Philomath; grandchildren, Pam Gonzales, Tim Vincent, Ryan Vincent and Angela McCubbins; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Delpha Bevens; eight brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at McHenry Funeral Home. A graveside service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Mount Union Cemetery in Philomath. The Rev. William McCarthy will officiate.

Arrangements are under direction of McHenry Funeral Home.
