Mr. Arliss Cornelius Walker, Sr., 81, of Palatka, died Monday, Feb. 6, at Putnam Community Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Crescent City he was the son of Sumpter J. and Leila Walker. He was a graduate of Central Academy High School, class of '52 and a resident of Palatka for over 75 years. He was a U.S. Army WW II veteran. He was a member of Church of God By Faith and a retired employee of the former Central States Diversified. He also served the community for many years as "Santa Claus."
Preceding him in death are his parents; daughters, Marion C. Walker and Cynthia Walker Edwards; sisters, Geneva Dickson and Aldora W. Keys; brothers, Joseph and Spencer Walker.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Mildred Rebecca Hankins Walker, Palatka; children, Carliss Walker of Gainesville, Arliss C. (Connie) Walker Jr. of Jacksonville, Pamela W. (Gerald) Conley of Clearwater, Kathy W. Cooper; Joseph (Johnetta) Walker, Mary Walker, Pamela L. (Vernon) Smith, all of Palatka; sisters, Rachel "Bonnie" Scott of Duluth Ga., Priscilla Townsend of Miami; 19 grandchildren; seven great-granchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be Saturday at the Church of God By Faith in Palatka, Pastor Phillip Thomas, eulogist. Interment will be in Oak Hill West Cemetery.
