Neil E. Akers, 76, of 102 Holiday Drive, died at 9:25 a.m. Monday (Oct. 10, 1994) in his home.

Born July 10, 1918, in Adams County, he was a son of Irvin and Ethel Marie Frey Akers. He married Virginia Herr Nesbitt Oct. 15, 1939, in Payson. She died Aug. 13, 1973. He then married Reva Predmore Hobbs Dec. 21, 1974. She survives.

Mr. Akers was a graduate of Liberty High School. He was employed by Holland Furnace, 1945-50, and K & P Heating Co. from 1950-83. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Kings Sunday school class.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Karen) Anderson of Quincy and Mrs. Dalton (Kathy) Anthony of Watauga, Texas; a son, Samuel Akers of St. Louis; a stepson, Richard Hobbs of Cambridge, Vt.; eight grandchildren, Amber and Jon Anderson, both of Quincy, Phillip Meyer of Oceanside, Calif., Melissa Sytsema and Todd Velderman, both of Grand Rapids, Mich., Michael Meyer of Macomb, Samuel Akers Jr. of St. Louis, and Donna Brown of Birmingham, Ala.; six step-grandchildren, Pamela Blom of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Linda Ferguson of Whitehall, N.Y., Richard Hobbs Jr. of Clemons, N.Y., Rochel Bibiano of Hurleyville, N.Y., and Verena Renna and Aaron Haberland, both of Burlington, Vt.; two great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Everett and Floyd, both of Quincy, Wade of Belton, Mo., Harry of Princeton, Melvin of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Dale of Washington, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Helen) Ogle of Liberty, Mrs. Don (Pauline) Hess of Fowler and Mrs. Don (Lois) Fessler of Quincy; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Velderman; and a brother, Elmer.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home by the Rev. L. D. Grant. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Calvary Baptist Church or the Church of the Brethren in Liberty.
