The son of Adam & Catharine (Klee) Glaser or Glazier (as the name was often spelled, likely indicating its pronunciation), in 1860, he was a laborer living in Peters Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 7" tall and had prematurely gray hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service in Montgomery Township, Franklin County, March 8, 1865, as a private with Co. H, 79th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company July 12, 1865.

He married Margaret Ellen Bitner ca. 1867 and fathered Ruth (b. ?), Alice (b. 12/12/67), Rebecca (b. @1869), Walter B. (b. 04/16/69), Sarah Ann (b. 01/04/73 - married William Henry Crusey), Mary E. (b. 03/03/74 or 75 - married William Watson Diehl), Mary E. (b. @1875 - married George Washington Hippensteel) [both Marys are reported as separate individuals and have different death dates], and William Garfield (b. 02/21/82). Margaret died in 1882, and he married Mary Jane Laughery, fathering Florence V. (b. 01/19/87, d. 1888). After the war, he lived in Berks County and later in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, but he died at his daughter's home from an "abscess of liver."

His death certificate claims a birth date of January 31, 1843, and December 28, 1843 is also reported. Note that the accompanying obituary spells his surname "Glazier."

The widowed Mary married Wilson J. Koch, veteran of the 158th Pennsylvania Infantry.
