Ross N. Watkins (1913-2012)

DENISON - Ross N. Watkins, 98, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 at The Terrace in Denison, Texas.

Visitation will be 6 - 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Jim Branscum will officiate and burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

R.N. was born Dec. 4, 1913 in Caney, Okla. to his parents Merrill E. and Josephine Holt Watkins. He attended country schools in west Texas and married Gladys Johnson on July 31, 1934 in Mereta, Texas. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2001.

R.N. was a driller in the oil fields, member of the Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Denison and a southern gospel singer.

He is survived by his son, Melvin Watkins and his wife, Pam of Denison; daughters, Joyce McChristian and her husband, John of Denison, Charlotte Darehshori and her husband, Turk of Denison, Lana Nunneley of Sherman, Cathy Brown and her husband, Pete of Langley, Wash.; brother, Lucian Watkins and his wife, Dorothy of Shepard, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Gladys and two sons, Thomas L. and Marland C.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimers Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001.
