HARRY VAN ALSTINE PASSES AWAY

What came as a severe shock and sorrow to his many friends and admirers was the announcement of the passing on of Harry Van Alstine, who succumbed to an attack of flu-pneumonia, after a five day illness.

Harry Van Alstine was almost a lifelong resident of this city, who counted his friends by the number of his acquaintances. A genial, companionable gentleman, industrious and trustworthy, a kind father and devoted husband, whose untimely death brings sincere regret to his many friends, and the keenest of sorrow to loved ones, to whom sympathy is extended in full measure.

Deceased was born in Mercur, Utah July 26, 1880, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. H. and Clara Van Alstine. For nineteen months he served with distinction in the Spanish-American war.

He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. F. Saunders and Miss Lois Van Alstine, both of Salt Lake City. Also three sisters, Mrs. Harry Goodman and Mrs. Oscar Clegg, of Park City, Mrs. E. E. Kennett, of Spokane, Washington, and one brother J. W. Crawford, of Murray, Utah.

Funeral services under them the direction of a Salt Lake undertaker, will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, next Sunday afternoon, December 2nd, and at 2 o'clock. Remains may be viewed at the home until 1:30 p. m. on day of funeral.

DISCREPANCY: Utah State Burials Database has his records under the name William Harry Van Alstine, rather than Henry. Most primary sources make it clear his middle name was Henry (like his father's) but he went by Harry.
