Donald Murl Browning was the last of twelve children born to John William and Lucinda Pearl (Troxel) Browning on May 2, 1927 in Chase County, Nebraska.

He married Bonnie Mae Ford O'Leary on April 21, 1947 in St. Francis, Kansas. One daughter was born to this union - Arletta Jeannine. After they were divorced, Don married Edith "Waneen" Crouse on June 23, 1954 in Prescott, Arizona. Five children were born to this union: Kerry Dean, Cheryl Waneen, Franklin Duane, Billy Blayne and Ronald Wayne. They later divorced. He then married Alice Delcine Duncklee Freeman on April 5, 1991 in St. Francis, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice on Feb. 15, 2009, one daughter, Arletta on Dec. 26, 2004 and one son, Ronald on Dec. 23, 2005, five sisters: Mary Edna (in infancy). Minnie Isabelle Murray, Laura Gertrude (age 11), Dona Aletha Miller, and Lola Ellen Zimbelman; four brothers: Jesse William, John Chester "Chet", Charles Lester "Mike" and Lewis Clyde (in infancy) and his parents. He is survived by one sister, Doris (Norris) Anderson and one brother, Laverne Purl "Bud" (Carol) Browning.
